What is amdal?
a. What does AMDAL mean?
AMDAL stands for Environmental Impact Analysis. In Government Regulation No. 27 of 1999 concerning Environmental Impact Analysis, it is stated that AMDAL is a study of major and important impacts for decision-making of a planned business and/or activity on the environment that is required for the decision-making process regarding the implementation of a business and/or activity.
b. What documents does the AMDAL consist of?
The AMDAL document consists of 3 (three) documents, namely,
- KA-ANDAL, at this stage only an inventory of potential impacts that may arise without considering the size of the impact, or the significance of the impact.
- ANDAL, contains a detailed description of the initial environmental baseline, forecast of significant impacts, holistic evaluation of environmental impacts.
- RKL-RPL, must contain efforts to handle impacts and monitor the environmental components affected by the overall impact, not only impacts that are concluded as significant impacts from the results of the holistic evaluation process in the Andal.
c. What is the use of AMDAL?
- Materials for regional development planning
- Assist in the decision-making process regarding the environmental feasibility of the business and/or activity plan
- Provide input for the preparation of detailed technical designs of business and/or activity plans
- Provide input for the preparation of environmental management and monitoring plans
- Provide information to the public on the impact of a business plan and or activity
d. Who prepares the AMDAL Document?

The AMDAL document must be prepared by the proponent of a business and/or activity plan. In preparing the AMDAL study, the proponent may request the services of a consultant to prepare the AMDAL document. The AMDAL document preparer must have an AMDAL Drafter certificate and be an expert in the field. The minimum standard provisions for the coverage of AMDAL preparation materials are regulated in the Decree of the Head of Bapedal Number 09/2000.
