Most people assume that the car repair industry is one of the industries with a low level of trust. Why is that? The fact is there are a lot of cheats - cheats in the industrial world both directly and indirectly. These frauds are things that have violated professional ethics.
The image that appears in the minds of some car owners is that car repair shops always try to take maximum advantage of the car problems they face and take advantage of customers' ignorance about the technicalities of car repair. That often happens in the car workshop industry.
This story was written not to discredit car repair entrepreneurs or fellow technicians, but rather aims to inspire all of us so that the business we are in can gain a high level of trust from the public and the automotive technician profession is not considered negative.
Pak Dul is a well-known car repair shop owner in the Bali area. The car repair shop business is not a fake business, he has been in the garage business since he went to a vocational high school, indeed since he was a child he was very fond of playing with things that smelled dirty, oil for example. As a result after graduating S2 in automotive engineering he opened his own car repair shop after 3 years of accumulating experience and capital.
The business is indeed going well, the number of employees is counted up to hundreds from the three branches. Pak Dul's management experience during schooling was fully implemented in this regard. Especially with his high degree, it is certainly quite easy for him to overcome all problems in the technical world
But one day, in preparation for the opening of a new workshop branch, Pak Dul was busy with business affairs, as a result he only monitored the report system made by his employees.
In the garage business, it is quite easy for the workshop to mark up the price of repair services. It's easy to add the cost of repairs without the customer realizing it. For technicians it is possible to damage a vehicle or equipment without admitting a mistake and taking something without the knowledge of others. This has been done by Mr. Japri in one of the branches of Mr. Dul's workshop.
Because Pak Dul has given full trust in Mr. Japri, the trust is used arbitrarily for personal gain. That is certainly very immoral and not ethical.
One form of violation of professional ethics committed by Mr. Japri is doing upselling work. Upselling work is offering work that is not really needed by the customer. There is a slight difference between doing maintenance work and repair work to prevent further damage. Selling repair services, especially regular maintenance so far, is something that can drain a customer's pocket. Thus the results of the private sale go directly into Mr. Japri, not through a workshop memorandum in the company's management system. Whereas from the customer side it will be far more effective and more efficient if some repairs are carried out at once while the car is in a repair shop where the technician has done dismantling and releasing various car parts, but it will be ineffective if it turns out the technician is doing work that is not actually needed by the customer.
Not only that, several times often done by Mr. Japri is deceiving customers by making bills for work that was never done by the workshop. Mr. Japri did this along with the financial administration section of Mr. Dul's auto repair company. Applying ethics to the car repair shop business means being honest with the customer by acknowledging the mistakes made and bearing the costs incurred due to those mistakes rather than imposing them on the customer.
As a professional technician, it is inappropriate to make irregularities in professional ethics. For a technician, respect not only respects the customer, but also respect for colleagues, equipment and workshops. Tools or equipment in car repair shops are quite expensive and not all workshops are able to provide a technician with a complete set of equipment, so that the habit of borrowing and borrowing tools between technicians and between workshops often occurs. It should be mandatory to return borrowed tools in a timely manner and in good condition. However, this is often not done as long as management trust is held by Pak Japri
Pak Japri also did some cheating with his team of technical technicians to take personal advantage, one of which was by exaggerating excessive work breaks, of course, this violated the SOP in company management. The duration of rest should be only 1 hour, but he can rest 1.5 hours-2 hours. This violation is almost done by all employees, according to the rules the break starts at 12.00 and ends at 13.00, but in fact can end at 13.30-14.00. This type of professional ethics violation is a dangerous action because it includes stealing. Stealing time off.
As a loyal customer, of course, put full trust in a workshop that has long handled technical problems in the car and with maximum results. But what Mr. Japri did damaged the reputation of Mr. Dul's workshop management and resulted in losses in several systems. The actions taken by Pak Japri were not in accordance with the standard of the car workshop management technique.
The last violation of professional ethics is the procedure for requesting repair of goods carried out by the technician. Very often what Mr. Japri does is adding the number of spare parts in the procurement system for resale. This he did by playing fake notes at the time of the company's financial recap.
